Mai 13, 1985 the Philadelphia government and its first African-american mayor Wilson Goode decided to end its war against African/Black radical liberation organization MOVE when it initiated an attack with a helicopter drop of FBI provided C4, gaz lacrymogène, fire hosing and over 10,000 tours de balles. They used their war artillery to destroy the home and headquarters of the MOVE organization killing 11 les gens (burning alive six adults and five children) and destroying a largely minority neighborhood destroying two city blocks, 65 homes. On Mother’s day, as the fire raged on, the police and city officials decided and said “Let the Fire Burn!"
Pourquoi? Because MOVE believed and committed to liberation and subscribed to a Natural way of life and fought to change capitalist oppressive laws. They protested and organized the community to stand up to the system and the government could no longer tolerate their militancy.
And justice has never prevailed: Despite two grand jury investigations and a commission finding of gross negligence on the part of top officials, no one was ever charged or found guilty of any negligence.
