Kokayi Kwa Jitahidi has worked on behalf of diverse communities in Southern California over the past decade. After completing a college career that included coordinating local campaigns in the conservative-bastion of Orange County against Proposition 227 and Proposition 38, he went on to work as a national organizer for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the largest public sector union in the country.
Kokayi currently serves as a Campaign Director at the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) for a City and Countywide effort to raise the minimum wage for low wage workers. He also helped lead a groundbreaking campaign to expand clean energy services and jobs throughout the City of Los Angeles through a partnership with IBEW Local 18 and the Department of Water and Power.
