JACKIE KIMBRAUGH – ZAMBEZI BAZAAR, of the Lemiert Park Village Merchant Association, With many clubs, galleries, restaurants, book stores and other shops, as well as various professional services, Leimert Park remains a relevant and productive center of African American culture and business. People come from all over to attend shows, have a meal or shop for art, jewelry, books and items not readily available elsewhere. To serve both the business and cultural community, the LPVMA was founded  by the artist Jimmy Walton in 1993. The LPVMA maintains neighborhood safety, organizes holiday decorations and special events, and actively pursues its mandate of promoting local commerce and art. “We hope to preserve African American culture,” noted Jackie Ryan, the president of the Leimert Park Village Merchant Association, who has lived in the neighborhood since 1961.
