Mayor Aja Brown
Mayor Aja Brown made history at 31 as the youngest mayor ever elected in the City of Compton. A national trailblazer, Mayor Brown’s ‘New Vision for Compton’ is a revitalization strategy centered on 12-key principles that focus on family values, quality of life, economic development and infrastructural growth.
Mayor Brown is focused on improving outcomes through policy reform, innovation, and strategic partnerships. She proudly serves the Citizens of Compton by developing and implementing public policies that facilitate guided growth through the protection of community assets.
Mayor Brown has received a lauded number of honors, including the National Action Network Martin Luther King Award, for her youth, women’s rights and socio-economic equality work in advocacy. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, Urban Planning, and Development, along with a Master’s degree in Urban Planning with a concentration in Economic Development from the University of Southern California.
Doug Sanders, City Treasurer
Doug has been elected as City Treasurer of Compton for 23 years and has been a resident of Compton for over 50 years.
Doug received his AA Degree from Compton Community College majoring in Accounting, Economics, and Math. He attended the University of Southern California (USC), majoring in accounting, finance, and economics. He also participated in the U.C.L.A. Extension Accounting Certificate Programs.
After the passing of his father Wesley Sanders Jr. who severed as the City Treasurer from 1973 to 1992, Doug was elected as the City Treasurer July 1, 1993.
Doug was awarded the designation of “Certified Investment Manager” from the Association of Public Treasures of the United States and Canada. Doug also received his advanced certified public finance investment manager and certificates in cash handling, with the completion of over 100 hours in Continuing Professional Education (CPE).
Doug is a member of California Municipal Treasurer Association (CMTA), Association of Public Treasurer of US & Canada (APT) and Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
