Attorney Kwaku Duren spoke to us about the injustices of the legal system this morning. He is a controversial African American lawyer, educator, writer, editor, Black Panther, long time social, political, community activist, and former convict who now lives and practices law in South Central Los Angeles.

B. KWAKU DUREN [#147789], 70, of Compton was suspended for two years, stayed, and placed on two years of probation with an actual 30-day suspension and was ordered to take the MPRE and to pay restitution. The order took effect May 10, 2013.
Duren stipulated that he failed to perform legal services with competence by not showing up at a hearing which led to his client’s foreclosure case being dismissed. Duren also did not inform the client of significant developments in her case, failed to promptly refund $10,000 in unearned fees and failed to give her a proper accounting when she asked for a refund. He later, belatedly, returned $2,000 of the fees.
As part of the stipulation, Duren was ordered to pay $8,000, plus interest, to the former client.
He wants to talk about “injustices in the legal system” ? He is facing ANOTHER round at State Bar court for just about the same thing and this time fraudulently having his client file for bankruptcy to get rid of the default judgements for his NO-SHOWS. Guess what? He was a no-show at bankruptcy court too.
SHAME ON KWAKU DUREN. Also, he is NOT a “Black Panther”.. he started is own defunct and failed “Black Panther Vanguard” group after he got out of prison.
