  1. Congrats to you.

Speaking of violence against women and guns, Marissa Alexander, is the 31-year-old African-American woman out in FL who was sentenced on Friday morning to 20 years in prison for firing a warning shot at her physically abusive husband. I hope her case gets reversed on appeal, it is so sad the children she was trying to protect will now have to visit their mom behind bars. Generally speaking, it is the women who hold their families together.

It seems that there is a push to lock up more and more black women. Simply put, this is institutional racism at best because prosecutors were so quick to file charges against a black woman, Alexander, who simply fired a warning shot at her abuser without striking anyone and now she’s serving 20 years in jail. Whereas George Zimmerman is out free right now walking the streets and he actually killed an innocent child.

The criminal justice is backwards. Such a travesty and a double-standard.
