Attorney Caree Harper

Caree Harper is a criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles and is representing Marlene Pinnock, the CHP beating victim who was recently justified with a 1.5 million dollar settlement.  She handles felonies, misdemeanors, administrative disciplinary matters, and select excessive force cases throughout Southern California.  Caree is licensed in the State of California, the U.S District Court in the Central & Southern Districts, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Harper has federal and state jury trial experience, and is undefeated in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.  She has obtained significant downward departures for federal criminal defendants and in February, 2011, successfully argued before a three judge panel at the 9th Circuit for a reversal of the lower Court’s ruling in a federal civil rights action against the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

In 2002, Ms. Harper represented a teenager who was beaten by officers of Inglewood P.D. after running a stop sign on his bicycle, resulting in a six-figure settlement for the youth.  In 2007, Ms. Harper and co-counsel won over $500,000.00 in a federal civil rights jury trial against the California Highway Patrol. In 2008, Caree Harper was one of hundreds of California attorneys dispersed throughout the country to oversee the polls in the Presidential Election.  She was directly responsible for the calculation of ballots of voters initially turned away for unconstitutional reasons.

  1. Marlene Pinnock is a SURVIVOR of the CHIP beating- not a “victim”. And Caree does not toot her horn enough because the settlement sets a new standard: go for the bad cop’s job so the good cops can do their work.
